DESCRIPTION:André Vida’s performance The Breathless Saxophone at Yellow Solo is based on the idea of playing a saxophone without breath, leaving out the most important form of expression and control in order to make the saxophonic apparatus sound. This restriction allows us to discover the sound of gestures that the saxophone itself hears internally during each solo. The instrument is an extension of the performer’s body, so that when the breath is omitted, the percussive inner life of the saxophone dominates.
