For its October issue 2024, the Berlin street magazine Karuna Kompass invited the Gesellschaft der Neuen Auftraggeber (Society of the New Patrons) as guest editors. Supported by editor-in-chief Astrid Mania and with a layout by graphic designer Florian Seidel, an entire issue about citizen-commissioned art was created. Karuna Kompass #58 – Kunst mit Auftrag is available on the streets of Berlin from now on.

What happens when people commission a work of art? And how does that work at all? Who are the New Patrons and what obstacles do they face? Why are conflicts valuable, what is democratic art and why is it now more important than ever? Answers to all these questions can be found in this issue.
The cover of this issue shows a commission from France: Normal Studio’s designers have developed Le Messager for their patrons, the cleaning staff of a residential complex in Bayonne – a trolley that transports buckets and tools and makes their daily work easier.
Karuna Kompass is the newspaper from a future of solidarity and is sold by people who face poverty. It has a circulation of 30,000+ and 100% of the proceeds go to the vendors The editorial team works free of charge.
