Sprüth Magers is pleased to announce the first exhibition in their New York space, a presentation of over seventy-five maquettes by John Baldessari from the early 1980s to the 2000s, curated by Nana Bahlmann. Monika Sprüth and Philomene Magers are the worldwide representatives of John Baldessari’s estate.

Created as preparatory works and sketches for his famous large-scale works, these dynamic works on paper contain and reveal the artist’s original source material from his extensive collection of images, from which he freely extracted elements, combined them and thus re-contextualised them to create his works. Together, the maquettes provide an extraordinary insight into Baldessari’s inspiring vision and his distinctive image-making process.
