Künstlerhaus Bethanien is celebrating 50 years of creativity, artistic innovation and international exchange. From its beginnings in 1974 as a refuge for emerging artists to its current status as a global cultural centre, it has fostered countless talents.

The Künstlerhaus is a place where artists from different fields and cultural backgrounds can meet and exchange ideas, both with each other and with an interested audience. To this end, it has a variety of mediation channels, such as the monthly exhibition openings, performances, concerts, film programmes, artist talks, specifically arranged studio visits and tours (“Open Studios”) that take place several times a year.
The focus of his wide-ranging remit is the International Studio Programme, in which artists from all over the world develop and present projects year after year with the support of the Künstlerhaus team.
The Künstlerhaus is constantly striving to expand its international network and gain new partners for the programme. It also endeavours to critically reflect on developments in contemporary art and culture. The Künstlerhaus also does this by publishing artist books and exhibition catalogues as well as the “Be Magazin”, an annual journal for art and criticism.
Participants in the studio programme are given the opportunity to develop and realise projects within a fixed period of time and to reflect on and consolidate their own artistic position within the Berlin art context. The work of Künstlerhaus Bethanien is characterised in particular by individual support and the networking of the scholarship holders with the Berlin art scene.
On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, Künstlerhaus Bethanien reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of inventiveness, diversity and experimentation in the constantly evolving landscape of contemporary art.
