The application phase for the VBKI Prize BERLINER GALLERIES 2024 has begun: Galleries based in Berlin with at least three and a maximum of fifteen years of business activity are eligible to take part in the prize, which is being awarded for the eighth time. The award goes to a special exhibition project organized by a gallery during the BERLIN ART WEEK 2024 and its overall appearance.

The aim of the VBKI BERLINER GALERIEN prize, which is awarded by the Association of Berlin Merchants and Industrialists (VBKI) and the State Association of Berlin Galleries (lvbg) with the support of the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Business, is to promote the German capital’s gallery scene and strengthen it as an international art market location.

In July, an expert jury will select three galleries from the applicants for the shortlist of the VBKI Prize BERLINER GALERIEN 2024. At the beginning of September, she examines the exhibitions during a tour and decides on the main prize winner gallery, which will receive an award worth 10,000 euros. The other two galleries on the shortlist will each receive 2,500 euros in recognition. The award ceremony will take place on September 13th as part of the BERLIN ART WEEK 2024.

The main prize winners of the past seven years were the galleries SEXAUER (2017), Daniel Marzona (2018), SCHWARZ CONTEMPORARY (2019), ChertLüdde (2020), alexander levy (2021), Thomas Fischer (2022) and OFFICE IMPART (2023). In 2021, Galerie Barbara Thumm was awarded the special DIGITAL GALLERY FORMATS prize, which was awarded once for its fifth anniversary.

Deadline: Berlin galleries can submit meaningful application documents to the State Association of Berlin Galleries, Kalckreuthstrasse 15, 10777 Berlin by July 1, 2024 (postmark).
