Congress „Die Zukunft der Kritik“ A cooperation of the Akademie der Künste and the Bundeskunsthalle | 18.-19.11.2022 + 24.-26.11.2022

Everyone is a critic today. But where is the criticism? We are all experts who evaluate each other. But where are the experts for the whole? Today, every theatre, every museum, every scientific institute is supposed to explain and promote its work itself – while independent mediation, classification, evaluation are dwindling with the general media. But without criticism there is no public. Without publicity, no arts. Without the arts, there is no democracy.

Now, of all times, when the monopolies of critique have been broken and more perspectives are finally being given space, critique is experiencing its greatest crisis. This crisis serves as a lens for the congress “The Future of Criticism” to look at the fundamental changes in the public sphere, institution and society. Over 100 international guests from architecture, the visual arts, film, literature, music, theatre and the media will discuss the future of the public sphere over two weekends at the Akademie der Künste and the Bundeskunsthalle.

With, among others, Cem A. aka freeze_magazine, Artists at Risk, Elke Bippus, Kate Brown, Elke Buhr, Saba-Nur Cheema, Joshua Citarella, Eric D.
