The legendary Stuttgart Ballet has not been seen in Berlin for more than three decades. From 22 to 24 September, the company will be performing at the Tempodrom at the invitation of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in cooperation with the Staatsballett Berlin.

The ballet evening PURE BLISS (“Pure Bliss”) with choreography by Johan Inger takes its title from the first performance of Inger’s BLISS. The Swedish choreographer uses the legendary Cologne concert of jazz pianist Keith Jarrett for his large-scale ensemble piece. Inger picks up on the nonchalance of Jarrett’s iconic music, translates it grandly into dance and creates images of freedom and community.
The three-part ballet evening continues with OUT OF BREATH, a stirring piece that explores the fine line between life and death. In this intense chamber play, six dancers literally run into a wall, try to overcome it, climb it or let themselves fall from it. These emotional images are accompanied by music by Jakob Ter Veldhuis and Félix Lajkós, played by the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
The evening closes with Inger’s AURORA’S NAP, an affectionate “Sleeping Beauty” persiflage to music by Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky that bridges the gap between classical ballet and modern dance – a new creation that only premiered in Stuttgart in February 2022.
