As of April 1, the renowned institutions of the Kunstmeile Hamburg welcome the Kunsthaus Hamburg as the sixth member of their association. The addition of the Kunsthaus will make the offer for visitors to the Kunstmeile, consisting of the Bucerius Kunst Forum, the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, the Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Kunstverein in Hamburg and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, even more diverse. The Kunsthaus, which is located directly between the Kunstverein in Hamburg and the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, enriches the cultural diversity along the art mile, which stretches from Deichtorplatz via the main railway station to the Binnenalster.

The Kunsthaus Hamburg is a center for contemporary art. It acts equally as a participatory exhibition venue, an artistic production site and a platform for cultural-political discussion and reflection. In the former market hall, up to six changing solo and group exhibitions of visual art and related disciplines are presented each year. In collaboration with both young, up-and-coming and established artists, an experimental program is created specifically for the exhibition hall. In keeping with the founding idea, the institution creates visibility for the city’s artists.

Anna Nowak, Artistic Director and Managing Director of the Kunsthaus, is looking forward to the upcoming collaboration: “Hamburg is one of the most diverse and relevant locations for visual arts in Germany. The Kunstmeile brings together the most renowned museums and institutions. It is a great honor to be part of it. As a house with close ties to local artists and cultural players, we are close to the pulse of the city and at the same time network internationally. We are delighted to be able to contribute this focus.”

Milan Ther, Director of the Kunstverein in Hamburg, is also delighted as a representative of the Kunstmeile about the new addition in the immediate vicinity: “It is with great pleasure that the Kunstverein in Hamburg welcomes our neighbors from the Kunsthaus under the direction of Anna Nowak to the Kunstmeile. As an important institution for contemporary art, the inclusion of the Kunsthaus means a strengthening of the Kunstmeile’s profile, which will broaden and rejuvenate the horizon of its programmatic orientation.”

Tulga Beyerle, Director of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg: “I am delighted that the Kunsthaus is now also helping to shape the Kunstmeile and expand its diversity. Another player strengthens our joint action and impact on urban society.”
