By lifting video and film from their narrative hinges, the works in the group exhibition Live Stream pursue an abstract understanding of moving images that draws attention to the materiality of the medium. The artists were invited to stage their works as a sculptural commentary on the materiality of the exhibition space and then developed site-specific updates to existing works. In the dialogic access to the cool, yet highly charged exhibition space of Fluentum and its specific possibilities and conditions, they create physical encounters.

Live Stream opens parallel to Gallery Weekend Berlin.

In January 2024, the duo Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff, who recently relocated from Berlin to Los Angeles, opened the New Theater Hollywood, a performance space for performances and plays that cross art, literature, TV and film production. Located on the historic theater mile on Santa Monica Boulevard, the project follows on from the duo’s previous locations, such as the TV Bar in Berlin, which they ran from 2019 to 2023. As social infrastructures in which productive activity and collective hanging out flow together, their real places slip into different roles for different protagonists. Henkel and Pitegoff are turning the New Theater Hollywood and the plays staged there into a semi-fictional setting for an episodic film being created in parallel, the first three parts of which will premiere at Fluentum in September 2024.

The exhibition by Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff opens as part of Berlin Art Week.

The third edition of the publication series In Medias Res ends the multi-year program series that deals with the historical and material levels of the building in which Fluentum works today. In Medias Res #3 puts the moving image in the foreground and, through films shot in the empty US headquarters before its conversion, questions the media-specific staging of time and history in Berlin in the 1990s and 2000s.

The 2024 program is curated by Dennis Brzek and Junia Thiede.
