Die kommende Ausgabe des Europalia Festivals, Europalia España, widmet sich der reichen Kultur Spaniens und findet vom 8. Oktober 2025 bis zum 1. Februar 2026 an verschiedenen Orten in ganz Belgien statt.
Aim and focus of the fair Europalia España aims to comprehensively highlight Spain’s cultural diversity. It covers a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines, including visual arts, performing arts, music, film, and literature. The festival takes Francisco de Goya as its central source of inspiration and at the same time addresses contemporary Spanish art in order to explore pressing issues such as politics, climate, and society.
Special features:
A special feature of Europalia is its biennial focus on a guest country or a specific theme, which allows for in-depth cultural insights. Europalia España presents a variety of exhibitions, performances, literary events, concerts, film screenings, and dance and theater productions. A highlight is the main exhibition “Luz y sombra: Goya and Spanish realism” at Bozar in Brussels, which explores Goya’s legacy and its significance for the image of Spain. The festival also includes newly commissioned projects and artist residencies that promote a unique interaction between cultural heritage and contemporary art.

History:
Founded in 1969, Europalia is an international arts festival that takes place every two years in Belgium. Each edition focuses on a different country or theme. The festival has established itself as an important platform for cultural exchange and is celebrating its 30th edition with Europalia España. Spain was already a guest country in 1985, and the current edition marks the 40th anniversary of this first encounter.
