Project ON #5 NON-PLACE

gallery damdam at the Korean Cultural Center presents the fifth theme of the exhibition series “Project ON” until January 12th, 2019.

A place reflects its history; relationships are established there, and the personality of its inhabitants flows into it. The “non-place”, as defined by Marc Augé, denotes a space that can no longer be regarded as an anthropological place. The sterile space, or non-place, which always appears new, like an airport, a hotel or a shopping mall, makes us forget the weight of time and gives us the feeling of remaining in an eternal present. Since such spaces are interchangeable, we usually pass them carelessly. But even such non-places can be transformed into places depending on the relationships that the people acting in them establish with them. This exhibition deals with the transformation of such a non-place into a place.
