After a seven-year break, Travelogue I – Twenty to eight is being revived at the Sophiensæle with a new dance cast. This revival is also a return to the beginning: one year after Sasha Waltz came to Berlin at the invitation of Künstlerhaus Bethanien, the choreographer founded the dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests together with Jochen Sandig in 1993 – with Travelogue I – Twenty to eight. The piece is the prelude to the Travelogue trilogy, which is created in the following years and establishes the company’s success. With the world premiere of Allee der Kosmonauten, another production by Sasha Waltz opens the Sophiensæle on 23 September 1996.

Travelogue I – Twenty to eight, which emerged from a dialogue between five dancers from all over the world as part of a scholarship from Künstlerhaus Bethanien and in co-production with the Grand Theatre Groningen, was highly praised by critics and audiences alike. The expressive language of movement leaves room for abstraction. Simple events from everyday life with comic turning points form the contrast to dramatic and emotionally charged parts. With humour, aggression and sensuality, Sasha Waltz paints a moral picture of the present that has lost none of its explosiveness and relevance to this day: a dance classic.
