In “Dive into You,” the choreographer and performer Kat Válastur hybridizes the figure and function of archaic female oracles with the photosynthetic processes and growth of trees. Válastur draws an analogy between how female oracles, entering a trance, serve as portals to the divine, and how in organic life, the tree transforms light through photosynthesis into energy and oxygen. Bringing this analogy in the theatrical space she creates a captivating solo based on how the physical dimensions and temporal aspects of this crossing can be expressed as energy manifestations – revealing dynamic elements such as vibrations, spirals, and circles. Inspired by the deep, resonant sounds of the wooden percussion instrument semantron, a percussive choreography unfolds, underpinned by a composition by musician Aho Ssan and Válastur’s vocals. The piece emerges as an oracle, hoping to connect us with our most secret and tender part.
