Sophiensæle presented the new performance by Ania Nowak on 29. November 2024. Obelix Nutrix used the figure of the nurse to explore the connections between care, interdependence and power. Ania Nowak interweaved historical and futuristic elements through language, soundscapes and expressive visuals.

In language, soundscapes and expressive visuality, the performance reflects the ethics of care, an ethic that professes universal care for human needs, regardless of nationality, skin colour or social status. Obelix Nutrix is inspired by Florence Nightingale and her fundamental importance to modern nursing, utilising the historical figure and her legacy as an archetype.
In a time of ongoing armed conflicts, increasing compassion fatigue and the omnipresence of images of suffering, Nowak explores the question of how care can be distinguished from paternalism, control or rescue fantasies. By interweaving historical and futuristic elements, Obelix Nutrix also approaches the field of artificial intelligence and digital health technologies. In this way, the performance arrives at the highly topical question: How do we take care of each other in the metaverse?
