From 27 to 30 April 2023, as part of the art fair paper positions berlin at Deutsche Telekom’s capital representative office in Berlin-Mitte, more than 50 international galleries will once again present expressive artworks that highlight the creative potential of paper as a material and expand the boundaries of the medium.

This successful specialised fair for the artistic medium of paper is accompanied by an extensive supporting programme of award ceremonies and special presentations, as well as the exclusive paper positions art editions.
Paper as a material
Works on paper not only stand out in the field of fine art, but are often particularly accessible and attractive in terms of their size and price. Young art enthusiasts are invited to make their first art purchases at paper positions, while already experienced collectors can expand their collections with outstanding works.
The multifaceted works, whether they are created in pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, watercolour and gouache or in the form of collages, silhouettes, autographs and sculptures, show the artists in their most spontaneous and artistically free moments. In their delicacy, vulnerability and immediacy, the works on paper benefit from the exclusive attention they receive at this specialised art fair.
Winner of the paper positions award: Maija Kurševa
This year, paper positions is showing a solo presentation of the artist Maija Kurševa (*1981), who was awarded the paper positions award last year in 2022. Kurševa is represented by the gallery MĀKSLA XO from Riga. Notwithstanding her extensive use of media, drawing has always formed the basis of the artist’s ideas. Her series “Black Lines” consists of spatial drawings and explores the question of how a flow of thoughts can be represented without using language. Her line, the metaphorical red thread, is made visible. It sweeps across the paper, held in place only in a few places by coloured brushstrokes.
