From July 13 to October 26, 2025, Museum Schloss Moyland will host a special exhibition featuring performance art pioneer Marina Abramović, who has been awarded the prestigious Praemium Imperiale 2025. The show brings together works from the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI), founded by the artist herself, in dialogue with the legacy of Joseph Beuys, and features 13 new performances developed specifically for the exhibition.

The exhibition Marina Abramović & MAI in Dialogue with Joseph Beuys connects two groundbreaking artistic figures and explores how MAI continues to shape and evolve performance art today. Since its founding in 2012, the MAI has been dedicated to researching, preserving, and promoting this artistic form.
The Praemium Imperiale – often referred to as the “Nobel Prize of the Arts” – is awarded by the Japan Art Association to honor outstanding lifetime achievements in the arts. Abramović is recognized for her transformative body of work, which has pushed the boundaries of art and the human body. “As a pioneer of performance art, Abramović used her own body as a medium and often included the audience as part of the artwork,” stated the jury.
