RESIDENZPFLICHT is a project of the artist group msk7 and is financed by the Senate Administration for Culture and Europe and the Senate Administration for Urban Development and Housing. For the art project, ten modular accommodations for refugees (MUFs) in Berlin alternately and temporarily extended by a mobile module in which ten international scholarship holders live and work artistically for one month. The aim of the project is to temporarily open the self-contained refugee shelters to approaches and developments in contemporary art.

The German-Syrian artist Manaf Halbouni (*1984, lives in Dresden) makes reference to current socio-political themes with his works, which are often presented in public space. In conversation with the artists of msk7, he reviews the time of his stay and explains his flying object “The Flying Dreams”, which he built for RESIDENZPFLICHT.

„RESIDENZPFLICHT formulates questions in relation to alienness, which can be posed and linked in many different ways – the strangeness between art-loving and non-artist audiences, the strangeness between residents from the neighbourhood and the fugitives, the strangeness between the one-month guest and the long-term residents of the accommodation, etc.”, says the artist group msk7.

msk7 are Mona Babl, Kati Gausmann, Ricarda Mieth and Anja Sonnenburg.
