In 1963, in the middle of the Cold War, the Ford Foundation established an Artists-in-Residence programme in Berlin. It was intended to protect West Berlin from “cultural isolation” and create a “free port of the arts”. In 1965, the DAAD took over the programme under a new name.
60 years later, the focus is to be on the here and now: reflection on our times, the interplay of word, sound and image, moments of encounter, the freedom of form.
A celebration with contributions by Svetlana Alexievich, Jay Bernard, Merche Blasco, Zoncy Heavenly, MADEYOULOOK, Nguyễn + Transitory, Matana Roberts, Sam Vernon & Mixtape Ménage.
Welcoming speeches: Katja Keul, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee, President of the German Academic Exchange Service e.V.
