Charlotte Stamm & Markus Zimmermann: Squaring the circle – Kasseler Kunstverein | 06.07. – 21.07.2024

Editors’ Choice

“Football belongs in a museum” – a small sign with a big impact. Some time ago, this notion was already being publicised in the rooms of the Kasseler Kunstverein. And finally the time has come – in the midst of the UEFA European Championship currently taking place in Germany, the Kasseler Kunstverein is joining forces with “Streetbolzer e.V.” to combine artistic positions that reflect on the subject of football and art in a critical, playful and humorous way. Together with inclusive creative workshops for children and young people as well as the highlight of the exhibition project, the “White Cube Cup” football tournament. A soft football tournament decoupled from the rigid rules of football, a meeting place with the character of a football pitch and free team building. A colourful white cube in the white cube and works by the artists Charlotte Stamm and Markus Zimmermann.

Both football and art create and promote communication. To what extent is it possible to be free for an alternative and inclusive form of football?
The traces of the workshops and tournaments will be on display in our rooms until 21 July 2024. On Wednesday, 17 July 2024 at 20:00, we will come together with Ronny Blaschke and Nanne Buurman to discuss hegemonies in art and on the football field.

To ensure access for all, there will be no admission charge.
Donations are always welcome.

About Charlotte Stamm
Her art is created from illustrations, videos, photos and performances. The focus is on social challenges and collective unrest, which she sketches with black humour and situation comedy. Her works combine a cynical view and humorous depiction.

About Markus Zimmermann
Markus Zimmermann is a sculptor and has recently become increasingly involved with the temptations of popular sport as well as the normative and optimising structures of competitive sport. In this process, he has created his own interpretations and settings of popular sports, such as table tennis and, especially for our exhibition, football

About Streetbolzer e.V.
Since its foundation in 2009, Streetbolzer e.V. has pursued the goal of promoting creativity, fairness and anti-racism. In doing so, they provide exemplary work for children and young people.

The exhibition is organised in cooperation with Streetbolzer e.V. and is sponsored by the Cultural Office of the City of Kassel, Kassel inklusiv! Sport und Bewegung für ALLE (Sportamt der Stadt Kassel) and gestochen scharf OHG. We would like to thank them for their support.
