From 15 June 2025, the Kunsthalle Münster will present the solo exhibition Wir sind voller Winde und Meer und Sonnenfäden (We Are Full of Winds and Sea and Solar Threads) by Catalan artist Rosa Tharrats. This is the first presentation of her works in Germany. The exhibition addresses issues surrounding collective networks, sustainability and the relationship between humans and nature. These central themes run through Tharrats’ sculptural, installation, performative and cinematic works.

Tharrats’ practice invites us to question our own relationship to the world and to recognise the inherent value of each element as a reminder of the cycles of life. Her works reflect processes of transformation, symbiosis, composition and permeability between the visible and invisible, the microscopic and macroscopic. Tharrats repeatedly draws attention to the vulnerability of nature – especially the oceans – and the dependence of entire communities on their well-being.
Natural and artificial objects in Tharrats’ work possess a subjective dimension that allows them to relate to humans. She is interested in the communication between living materials and bodies of various kinds. From an archive of everyday objects, fabrics and found objects, she develops sensory narratives about new cultures of coexistence and care. This archive is understood as an open process that is constantly evolving.
The exhibition centres on the premiere of her new film The underwater divines are flying and floating and melting with us (2025), created during an expedition by the Schmidt Ocean Institute to the South Sandwich Islands – a remote chain of islands in the sub-Antarctic South Atlantic. The film shows deep-sea creatures documented for the first time and is accompanied by an immersive soundscape that extends throughout the entire Kunsthalle.
In addition, the Kunsthalle Münster is showing Tharrats’ installation Vestir el viento (2025), a large-scale work made of natural and synthetic materials that adapts to the architectural structure of the exhibition space. The installation was also created on the expedition ship – in direct collaboration with the wind, which also becomes part of the exhibition in performances.
The exhibition sees itself as a poetic-practical experiment that opens up new spaces for thought and action in order to reflect on social and ecological challenges. It ties in with earlier projects at the Kunsthalle Münster, such as Un-Break My Walls (Christiane Blattmann, 2019), When Disaster Strikes (Dominique White, 2023/24), Dog Eye (Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, 2020/21) and Manigua (nicolás paris, 2024).
