From 4 August to 2 November 2025, Schloss Biesdorf is presenting the exhibition LUMEN, curated by the artist duo Römer + Römer. 30 artists from Germany and the Netherlands will explore the theme of light in its many manifestations – from physical and cultural to poetic dimensions. The exhibition will open on 3 August 2025 with a vernissage in the presence of poet and singer Klaus Estermann.

With LUMEN, Schloss Biesdorf brings together a broad spectrum of artistic styles and media. The works on display range from painting, photography, video works and site-specific installations to performance.

Light appears here as an atmospheric element, technological impulse or metaphorical opening – sensual, experimental and speculative. The title LUMEN refers not only to the Latin word for light, but also to the measure of luminous flux in physics and to the interior of a vessel in anatomy – a symbol of permeability.

The architecture and history of the exhibition venue deepen the thematic framework: Schloss Biesdorf, once the summer residence of Werner Siemens, a pioneer of electrification, forms a resonance surface between nature, history and technological vision with its listed park.

The exhibition is the result of an inspiring exchange with the Amsterdam light artist Peter Vink and is sponsored by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the exhibition fund Kommunale Galerien Berlin.
