The gallery owners Monika Sprüth and Philomene Magers run highly successful galleries in Berlin, London and Los Angeles. Now Sprüth Magers is opening another location in New York.

The rooms with the resonant address 22 East 80th Street, Upper East Side Manhattan, are only a stone’s throw away from Central Park and the Museum Mile with the Metropolitan Museum of Art. East 80th Street connects the famous 5th Avenue with Madison Avenue and is particularly known for its ensemble of buildings in the neo-colonial style. Sprüth Magers Berlin is moving into the second floor of a neo-Renaissance house designed by Charles Graham & Sons and built in 1889, according to the “Friends of the Upper East Side“.
The spaces are the new home of the gallery’s New York office. Together with a showroom, they provide an important link not only to East Coast institutions and collections, but also to the gallery’s New York-area-based artists.
“Opening a space in New York has developed naturally from conversations with the gallery’s artists, who look forward to having an outpost closer to home.”Monika Sprüth
Sprüth Magers New York is led by Sam Tsao as Senior Director and Ryan Muller as Director.
The gallery will be open to visitors by appointment from 30 June 2022. Visiting hours are Monday to Friday, 10 am to 6 pm.
“Our team has long-standing relationships with curators and collectors in the New York area, but nothing can replace connecting and exhibiting work in person as the last two pandemic years have made so clear.”Philomene Magers
In September, Sprüth Magers New York will open an exhibition of rarely seen preparatory maquettes by John Baldessari, followed by a project with Louise Lawler in November – two artists whose work is represented worldwide by Sprüth Magers.
