“Peace Through Chemistry II” (1970) by Roy Lichtenstein is one of eleven works from the art collection of the Ernst Schering Foundation that the Berlin auction house Grisebach will auction on 2 December. Works of art by Christo, Stephan Balkenhol and K. H. Hödicke will also be up for sale that evening. This will be followed in February 2023 by a sales exhibition of the nearly 60 remaining works in the collection, which includes paintings, prints and sculptures from the West Berlin art scene since the 1960s, including works by Peter Sorge, Hans Laabs and G. L. Gabriel.

The development of the art collection was completed with the liquidation of the business operations of Schering AG in 2006. Instead of continuing its development, the Foundation decided in 2008 to collect drawings and graphic works by contemporary artists and to make them available to the Museum of Prints and Drawings on permanent loan.
The Ernst Schering Foundation sees itself as an institution that promotes pioneering work in the fields of science and culture, dares to do something new, supports interdisciplinary people and accompanies them on their way. To strengthen this work and expand the Foundation’s commitment, the proceeds from the sale of the collection will flow into the Foundation’s assets and benefit new, innovative projects.
If you are interested in the auction and / or the acquisition of a work from the collection, please feel free to sign up here for a specific and time-limited newsletter around the auction and the sales exhibition.
