The Semjon Contemporary Gallery – founded in 2011 by Semjon H. N. Semjon – has developed its own distinctive profile, making it unique in the art world. It represents international positions in contemporary art that, despite their divergences, have the common denominator of a high level of material intelligence.
The result is a unique artistic language that does not allow any modification of the familiar. Despite all the differences in material, technique and expression, the artists’ works enter into dialogue with each other, which was also shown in parallel salon hangings and in special exhibitions with many guest artists.
In the book X x X the following artists are presented in separate chapters:
Colin Ardley, Edward L. Buchanan, Takayuki Daikoku, Dittmar Danner aka Krüger, Ute Essig, Experimental Setup (collective of Kata Hinterlechner and Bosko Gastager), Katja Flint, Andreas Fux, Dave Grossmann, Renate Hampke, Marc von der Hocht, Nataly Hocke, Michael Kutschbach, Henrik U. Müller, Cornelia Nagel, Susanne Knaack, Katja Kollowa, Susanne Pomrehn, Thomas Prochnow, Dirk Rathke, Ursula Sax, Gerda Schütte, Gil Shachar, Li Silberberg, Karina Spechter, Klaus Steinmann, Stefan Thiel, Hitomi Uchikura, Royden Watson and Bettina Weiß.
In addition, there are statements by collectors such as Thomas Lenhart, Cornelie Kunkat, Gabriele Quandt, Roland Schnell, Nobert Fuhr and Klaus Werner, Roswitha and Jürgen König and Helmut Ließ.
Comments by art critics/scholars and an interview conducted by Jan Maruhn with Semjon provide further insights into the gallery’s work.
