Contemporary art offers space for a profound examination of the nature of time and movement. In this sense, Particolare offers a multi-layered view of time and movement through outstanding works by contemporary artists.

Upon entering the Kursalon, visitors encounter their own reflection, which is constantly changing in Michelangelo Pistoletto’s works like multiple realities. Along the exhibition route, visitors can discover other prominent artists from different eras and movements who explore the theme of time and movement in a variety of ways.

For example, John Miller’s conceptual work with the mannequin of a little boy changes its position during the exhibition. The sudden and randomly activated change of Angela Bulloch’s sculpture through mapping is another example of the rhythm that gives this exhibition a lively character.

Erik Bulatov’s painting Lumières de Nuit captures the waves of the sea and the glitter of distant cities. In his work May 17, 2024 (One Day), Rob Pruitt expands the time scale and uses color gradients to depict the sunrise and sunset of a particular day, with dramatic color changes depending on the time of day. The series I GOT UP by On Kawara is in turn the observation of a calendar extending over several years. With the most economical means and impressive visual elegance, Kawara creates a complex meditation on time, our existence and the relationship between art and life.

In the works of Saâdane Afif and Alicja Kwade, which deal with the subjectivity of time and space in a humorous way, the hands of the clock literally become a work of art. The digital counters by Tatsuo Miyajima, the moving sculptures by Žilvinas Kempinas and Wim Delvoye’s L’ordre des choses, which incorporates works by other artists such as Killing Time by Alighiero Boetti, extend the artistic palette from Particolare to kinetic art.

The Kursalon literally comes to life: as soon as the 100 metronomes of György Ligeti’s famous Poème Symphonique are heard, the audience takes over the magnificent halls, which are alternately filled with dancers, musicians, performances and lectures.

Particolare invites us on a journey through time that sharpens our artistic sensibility. Upon entering the exhibition, artist Gianni Motti takes visitors on an unusual walk through CERN’s particle accelerator, designed to expand our knowledge of the universe. Libby Heaney explores quantum temporality and the impermanent nature of things through new, non-linear and emotional narrative forms. Leaving the Kursalon towards the gardens, the audience can lose themselves in a labyrinthine sculpture by Rashid Al Khalifa.

Particolare offers art lovers and collectors an encounter between exhibition and art salon – curated, cross-genre and immersive. Particolare is part of the start of the European Art Autumn season and contributes to the radiance of Vienna as an art location.

Particolare takes place on behalf of CultTech Association in Vienna as a curated, contemporary art salon with the aim of renewing the format. The project is the first in a series of events to promote innovation and new approaches in culture.
