With more than 220,000 visitors, the special exhibition ‘Andy Warhol. Velvet Rage and Beauty’ at the Neue Nationalgalerie has already been a huge success. The last two weeks of the exhibition are now underway and the show ends on Sunday, 6 October 2024. Due to the great demand, there will be extended opening hours for the exhibition finale on Friday, 4 October 2024, from 10 am to 8 pm, and on Saturday, 5 October 2024, from 10 am to 9 pm. Director Klaus Biesenbach will also be offering public tours in person.

The exhibition brings together over 300 works: paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, Polaroids, films and collages show a comprehensive and inclusive understanding of the artist Andy Warhol for the first time in the upper hall. From his early drawings to the screen tests and films of the 1960s, the torso paintings of the 1970s to his artistic collaboration with Jean-Michel Basquiat in the 1980s, and countless photographs, the exhibition explores Warhol’s view of physical beauty and weakness, fragility and strength, as well as his own diversity and fluidity in the form of many of the artist’s self-portraits.
For the exhibition finale on Saturday, 5 October 2024, the Neue Nationalgalerie is offering extended opening hours from 10 am to 9 pm. Director Klaus Biesenbach will also be offering one-hour guided tours in person at 6, 7 and 8 pm. Participation in the guided tours is possible without pre-registration, with a ticket to the exhibition. The number of participants is limited.
‘Andy Warhol. Velvet Rage and Beauty’ is curated by Klaus Biesenbach, director of the Neue Nationalgalerie, with Lisa Botti, co-curator. The curatorial assistant is Nikola Richolt.
