Constanza Macras | Dorky Park presents the premiere of the new show The Hunger, which will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Volksbühne Berlin. The Hunger explores the cyclical collective rituals of excess that help to maintain a fragile sense of reality, a “normality” with its social conventions and rules.

Inspired by the historical events fictionalized in the novel “The Witness” by Argentinian writer Juan José Saer, the show follows the strange experiences of the first Europeans in search of a new world, who encounter, are killed and devoured by the man-eating natives in the South American region “Rio de la Plata” at the beginning of the 16th century.
Only an unnamed narrator survives among them, becomes part of the Colastiné tribal community, witnesses, observes and remembers. After he is later liberated by other Spaniards, he reflects on his perceptions during the time he spent with the tribe and remembers.
In The Hunger, the anthropophagic rituals branch out into other registers of gluttony, from the conquest of America to the consumer frenzy of contemporary capitalism to the hyperproduction of an endless now in today’s digital platforms.
“The transformation of the taboo into a totem” echoes new forms of boundary collapse as we engulf our own intimacy and privacy in the representational logics of the digital world.Does reality only exist when someone is watching it?
