Editors’ Choice

Neurotitan presents from 10th May 2025 the exhibition B-Side – Hidden Tracks from treasured Artists, featuring works by nine selected artists: Adeline Meilliez, Chantal Kirch, Fehmi Baumbach, Jens Harder, Julienne Jattiot, Michael Zander, Olivia Pils, Susann Pönisch, Xuehka.

Some of the artists have been working with NEUROTITAN for many years, while others have only recently joined after being discovered by the project space or having discovered it themselves. Over the years, the artistic development of these artists has been closely followed. Their diverse portfolios form a lively cross-section of Berlin’s independent art scene.

The aim of this exhibition is to offer them a platform on which they can present themselves from a different perspective: away from the commercial context of the shop, in complete freedom and without market pressure.

On display are works that clearly stand out from the usual catalogue, whether through their departure from conventional formats, the use of unusual materials or interdisciplinary creative processes that have so far remained hidden from the majority of the public. The exhibition includes experimental prints, drawings, paintings, ceramics and installations.

The working and living conditions (not only) of artists in Berlin have become increasingly precarious over the years. Neurotitan has always seen itself as a place that tries to counteract this development within the scope of its possibilities and to offer artists a presentation and sales space in a central, highly frequented location at fair conditions. The artists based at Neurotitan are representatives of an independent art scene that avoids the usual utilisation matrix and at the same time reflects a creative, authentic Berlin with all its rough edges. The wide range of diverse works such as screen prints, illustrated artworks, graphic narratives, customised textiles and accessories bear witness to this.

The artistic production surrounding NEUROTITAN is at the centre of the second anniversary exhibition to mark the 30th anniversary of Haus Schwarzenberg. To mark the occasion, Neurotitan: B-Side will showcase a selection of artists who have played a key role in the development of the successful NEUROTITAN project over many years and have worked together in a spirit of trust. However, it is important to point out that this exhibition can only show a representative selection of what NEUROTITAN is really about: a diverse community of artists, producers and suppliers whose extensive repertoire offers a wealth of possibilities from which we can draw to share our enthusiasm with visitors from all over the world.

Biography of the artists:

Adeline Meilliez:
Adeline Meilliez is a French artist who has lived in Berlin since 2010. Her focus is on screen printing, but her works transcend the classic boundaries of printmaking – each one is unique. Her artistic style combines the botanical world with abstract forms and unites elements of photography and painting. With vibrant colours and dynamic compositions, she captures the essence of nature and transforms it into powerful works of art. In recent years, Adeline Meilliez has exhibited in Beijing, Amsterdam and Berlin, among other places.

Chantal Kirch:
Chantal Kirch (*1982, Zurich) lives and works in Ber- lin. Her artistic work is located at the intersection of drawing, textile art and installation. At the centre of her work is an experimental engagement with body and material. Her technique of simultaneous drawing with both hands is particularly influential – a process that leads to dynamic, often unexpected compositions. In her textile art, she combines traditional craftsmanship with conceptual questions. Her works made of thread and fabric are not only aesthetic images, but also a form of resistance – a play with fragility, time and physicality. Her artistic practice revolves around the body as a carrier of memory and experience. Her works invite us to understand textile structures not only visually, but also as narrative fabrics in which personal and collective stories are interwoven.

Fehmi Baumbach
The artist Fehmi Baumbach creates a unique visual language with her collages. In her works, she combines fragments from past times with present emotions, creating works full of depth and contradictions. Her art is a game with reality and imagination; with taut threads she creates coordinates that suggest a timetable through time and space. Astrophysicists have already documented successful calculations of time leaps in her works. A dialogue between materials that do not originally belong together, but which take on a new meaning in her compositions. Her collages are characterised by a fine sense of composition and an intuitive handling of materials that often carry a story within them. In addition to her artistic work, Fehmi Baumbach also works at the interface between art, music and literature. She loves interdisciplinary exchange and develops projects that go beyond the classic medium of collage. In collaboration with musicians, authors and theatre projects (including Jim Avignon, Charlotte Pfeifer and Julia Mantel), she creates works that interweave different forms of artistic expression and thus open up new perspectives.

Jens Harder
Jens Harder was born (1970 in Weißwasser in Upper Lusatia), moved to Berlin (1990), studied graphic design at the KHB (1996-2003) and founded the drawing group Monogatari (1999 with five fellow students). He observes (in ‘Cargo’ and other drawn reportages), fantasises (in ‘Leviathan’ and other fictional comics), adapts (in ‘Gilgamesh’ and other illustrated stories) and compresses (in ‘ALPHA / BETA / GAMMA’ and other epic works). Harder has won prizes (including the Max and Moritz Prize / Erlangen 2004 and the ‘Prix de l’ Audace’ / Angoulême 2010) and exhibited (including in Atlanta, Beijing, Belo Horizonte, Novosibirsk, Jerusalem, Oslo, Paris, Tel Aviv and Zurich). Mostly, however, he works as a comic artist and illustrator.

Julienne Jattiot
Born in France, Julienne Jattiot lives and works between Zeitz, Leipzig and Berlin. After studying at the Kunsthochschule-Berlin Weißensee, she founded the artist studio/print workshop Jott P.M. in Berlin with Susann Pönisch and Timo Moors. Since 2016 she has been working with Thomas Siemon in the atelier carpe plumbum (workshop for letterpress printing) in Leipzig. Her work has been shown in national and international solo and group exhibitions, as well as with the collective La Société Savante, which she founded with three other artists in 2011. She has been teaching printmaking techniques at various art academies since 2008. Printmaking techniques are at the centre of her work: Linocut, letterpress, intaglio and occasionally lithography. She also likes to work experimentally with traditional techniques by mixing printing techniques, working with unusual shapes or printing on wood.

She divides her work into two segments, as is the case in the fashion industry with the relatively simple ‘prêt-à-porter’ and the labour-intensive ‘haute couture’. In addition to a series of relatively small formats, in large or open editions, often unsigned and therefore cheap to buy, there are the very elaborate, often large-format works that are unique or printed in very small editions.

Michael Zander
Mr Zander had a happy childhood, after which he studied communication design at Trier University of Applied Sciences, specialising in book design and illustration. Today he works as a freelance illustrator, graphic designer and lecturer for publishing houses, agencies and educational institutions. He lives and works in Dresden.

Olivia Pils
Olivia Pils is a visual artist and social anthropologist from Berlin. In her art, she tells surreal stories of the body and technology, of attraction and discomfort. She deals with themes and questions of social coexistence with a feminist subtext. She uses various materials such as porcelain, ceramic, wax, hair, latex and Plexiglas. The complex objects are installed in the space and resist a glossy aesthetic through their fragmentation.

Susann Pönisch
Susann Pönisch graduated from the Berlin Weißensee School of Art as a master student in 2015. In the same year, she and two other artists founded the Jott P.M. print workshop in Berlin, where she has been working ever since. Printmaking techniques such as woodcut, etching and, in particular, screen printing form the basis of her work. Susann draws or paints the templates for her screen prints directly onto tracing paper, using various materials such as acrylic, charcoal, graphite, spray paint and ink. She uses this method to create numerous works on paper and canvas, artist’s books and small editions, which she presents in national and international exhibitions.

Xuehka
Xueh Magrini Troll aka Xuehka comes from a third generation family of artists. In 2003 she moved from Colombia to Berlin, where she developed her creative practice. Drawings are at the heart of her work, which unfold their full power through their superpower – colour. Her artistic spectrum ranges from illustration and comics to painting, performance and ceramics. Her style is her unmistakable voice – unfiltered, bold and full of life. Her life and her art are closely interwoven, inspired by the diversity of Berlin, by physicality, sensuality and an intense world of colour.
