First published in 1984 by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant, the book “Subway Art” is considered the bible of old school graffiti & became a huge source of inspiration and mentoring for a whole generation of European graffiti writers in the 80s and beyond. Subway Art has also contributed to the legitimization of graffiti as an art form and influenced the development of street art.
Tripl has been recreating/repainting each page of the original edition of the book with his name Tripl and different aliases (such as Furious) but in the style of the originals over a 10-year period on Dutch and European trains. He not only recreated the graffiti on trains, down to the smallest details, but also re-enacted as well the photographs of the original book.

The exhibition is curated by Jasper van Es, and alongside Tripl’s achievements and artworks, includes photos by Martha Cooper & Henry Chalfant, and some installation works and videos.
