Galerie Judin is opening a second space in Berlin – in partnership with Pace Gallery and the Die ZEIT publishing group. A group exhibition presented jointly by Pace and Galerie Judin will inaugurate the new space, which will open to the public during Berlin Gallery Weekend in early May 2025.

This spring, ‘Die Tankstelle’, a converted petrol station from the 1950s in Berlin-Schöneberg, will be transformed into a versatile new gallery space. The Pace Gallery and Galerie Judin will exhibit here, and a café and bookshop will be created under the management of the Die ZEIT publishing group. The building will be officially opened on 1 May 2025 with a joint group exhibition by Pace and Galerie Judin.
The petrol station built in 1954 during the reconstruction of West Berlin, which will house the new exhibition space, was abandoned in 1986. After two decades of neglect, it was acquired by Jürg Judin, who had it converted into an art space in 2005 (architects: Thomas Brakel and bfs design). During the restoration of the ensemble from the economic miracle era, striking modernist elements were retained, including the canopy in Shell logo red, the folding doors of the workshop and the former exhibition space, while a new studio wing for art exhibitions and a walled garden designed by landscape architect Guido Hager with old pine trees and a tall bamboo were added. The remodelling was completed in 2008 and was awarded the prestigious Berlin Architecture Prize in 2009. In the years following the conversion, the petrol station served as Juerg Judin’s private residence – and the gallery’s collectors and artists enjoyed the legendary dinner parties that took place there after every opening of Galerie Judin. From 2022 to 2024, it housed the Kleine Grosz Museum, an institution dedicated to the work of Berlin’s most famous artist, George Grosz.
The opening exhibition in the new exhibition space will be presented jointly by Pace and Galerie Judin – further details will be announced shortly before the opening. Following this exhibition, Pace and Galerie Judin will organise their own presentations in the space throughout the year. Entry to the new space, which is open to the public six days a week, Tuesdays to Sundays, from 11am to 7pm, is free.
