Editors’ Choice

Dr. Petra Winter (Head of the Central Archive & Provenance Research of the National Museums in Berlin) will give a lecture on this topic on January 10th, 2019 at 6 pm in the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart.

Provenance research usually asks the question: Where did the pictures come from? But sometimes it also asks itself: Where did they go – and why? The paths of the pictures into and out of the museum are intertwined, rarely straightforward and sometimes bizarre.

The lecture traces the paths and provenances of selected works by the Nationalgalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin: Works by painters such as Otto Mueller, Carl Mense and Horst Strempel, which are currently shown in the exhibition MALER. MENTOR. MAGIC. Otto Mueller and his network can be seen in Breslau. The lecture also provides insights into the everyday work of provenance research.

The lecture is free of charge plus admission. Limited number of participants. Registration not required.

As part of the exhibition MALER. MENTOR. MAGIC. Otto Mueller and his network in Breslau at the Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart – Berlin.
