Architecture + Art Weekend 2019 will take place in Berlin from August 31st to September 1st 2019. The event, which was initiated by the gallery owner and architect Irina Ilieva (aquabitArt Galerie), presents annual urban interventions, site-specific installations and artistic positions in Berlin. Guided tours offered as part of Architecture + Art Weekend provide a deeper insight into the participating venues.
In calendar year 2019, places whose planned exhibitions correspond to this year’s theme “Beyond the Bauhaus” are invited to participate. The combination of architecture and art is in line with the principles of the BAUHAUS School. The anniversary year “100 Years of BAUHAUS” with its numerous events offers an excellent framework to explore the interplay of art and architecture from the perspective of the present.
With Semjon Contemporary, Benhadj & Djilali, ifa Galerie Berlin, aquabitArt gallery, Klosterruine, Bärenzwinger, Art Tours Berlin, Luisa Catucci Gallery, Pförtnerhaus (when the image is new …).
The participating venues create their exhibition offerings independently. The aquabitArt Galerie forms the Festival Center at Auguststraße 35 in Berlin-Mitte.
The organizers about their motivations: “The development of the technology society has changed the relationship between architecture and art. In this context, we open a discussion on how the two disciplines can influence each other and bring about a change of perspective that sustainably improves our present. The festival has a clear Berlin connection; it brings together places and institutions that draw the attention of city dwellers to social and urban processes through artistic interventions and make them immediately perceptible and experienceable.”
Conceptually, the festival sees itself as being at the interface between „Gallery Weekend„ and „Tag der Architektur“ and sees itself as an enrichment of Berlin’s cultural offerings, both across districts and in the long term.

Light installation at the aquabitArt Galerie: Peter Vink – AQUABIT II
After his extremely successful AQUABIT installation in 2017, Dutch artist Peter Vink returns to the gallery with a new site-specific concept. AQUABIT II is inspired by the spatial drawings of the Bauhaus teacher Josef Albers and his ability to create perspective, imaginary spaces. Peter Vink proposes a rotating structure derived from the architectural environment, which builds a three-dimensional drawing in the gallery space. The visitor is invited to discover the surroundings from a different perspective.
“Vink composes site-specific installations that suggest a new physical as well as intellectual space within the room in which they occur; by carefully balancing on the borders between art and design, functionality and visual pleasure, the work of Vink is not only to be perceived aesthetically but also conceptually.” ” Ein Essay von Vanessa Souli
