In terms of content it is about marketing language and fake news, about architecture for robots and humans, about visions of the cosmic in the age of technical expansion and about the poetry of nature, which has been creating its own geometries in flower and seed buds for millions of years, which today can be the basis of a filigree sculptural practice.

All exhibitions are curated by Katja Blomberg, Barkow Leibinger together with Ludwig Engel. All exhibitions are accompanied by an extensive programme of events and information. Each exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König.

BERNHARD MARTIN
IMAGE BALLETT
March 13th to June 7th, 2020

The internationally renowned painter Bernhard Martin (*1966, lives and works in Berlin) creates a large cycle “Image Ballet” especially for the ground floor rooms of the Haus am Waldsee as part of his solo exhibition. The contents are based on language, as it has become the attitude of exaggeration at influencers, press conferences or state visits. To depict the linguistic changes that can lead to fake news, Martin uses a smooth, differentiated painting without a handwritten style. Full of humour and with iconographic vehemence, his pictures call for a new perception of language and media presence. The older works, which are shown on the upper floor of the house, also deal with language and abysses in the medium of painting.

BARKOW LEIBINGER
ARCHITECTURE BETWEEN MAN AND MACHINE
June 19th to August 30th, 2020

With the exhibition Barkow Leibinger – Architecture between Man and Machine the Haus am Waldsee wants to honour the work of the American-German architects Frank Barkow (*1957) and Regine Leibinger (*1963). After GRAFT, Haus Rucker&Co. and Juergen Mayer H., this is the fourth time that an internationally outstanding architectural position has been presented in Haus am Waldsee, which has been anchored in Berlin for decades, has been building worldwide, is close to the visual arts and has never been honoured with its own exhibition in Berlin. The exhibition focuses on Barkow Leibinger’s pavilion construction and the development of new materials and space organisations in relation to automated production processes in industrial companies that are also used by people.

BERTA FISCHER, BJÖRN DAHLEM, NAUM GABO
UTOPIA OF THE COSMIC (working title)
September 11th to November 29th, 2020

One hundred years after the publication of the “Realist Manifesto” by the Russian constructivists and brothers Antoine Pevsner and Naum Gabo, the Haus am Waldsee brings together Berta Fischer (*1973), Björn Dahlem (*1974) and Naum Gabo (1890 – 1977), three outstanding sculptor-visionaries who will enter into an exciting dialogue about the ideas of the future. The three artists have in common both their unusual materials, their scientific references to their works, and their view of form as a dynamic space-time construct. Analogies to scientific research, especially astrophysics, form another common basis. All three artists are perceived internationally and live or lived in Berlin.

CHRISTIANE LÖHR
SCULPTURES FROM FLOWERS AND SEEDS (working title)
December 11th 2020 to February 7th, 2021

Christiane Löhr (*1965) uses exclusively renewable material for her sculptural works without precedent in contemporary sculpture. Horsehair, grasses, blossoms, or seed clusters, among other things, form the material of which her filigree spatial sculptures of various formats are made. She is particularly interested in the transformation processes of her unusual source materials into delicate and thus all the more risky spatial events. The former master student of Jannis Kounellis at the Düsseldorf Art Academy lives and works in Cologne and Prato in northern Italy. In her first institutional solo exhibition in Berlin, works from the 2000s to the present can be seen. All works are created on site and especially for the rooms in the Haus am Waldsee.
