Following its completed renovation, the Neue Nationalgalerie will be open to the public from Saturday, 5 to Monday, 7 June 2021. During these three open days, visitors will be able to view the still empty, unused museum building. Admission is free of charge.
On the open days, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s architectural icon can be experienced in its pure state, i.e. without any art on display. The focus is on the building itself, which was opened in 1968 and has been renovated since 2015. The tour available on the open days offers visitors detailed insights into the renovation measures implemented by David Chipperfield Architects. From the glass hall, the path leads to the spacious basement, where visitors can see the cloakroom, museum shop and café as well as the collection rooms. The garden, which was already closed off for many years before the renovation, can now be experienced again as an extension of the museum space.
Interested parties can also follow the individual renovation measures in detail via a specially developed website, from the doorknob to the huge window panes: www.neue-nationalgalerie-elements.de
Admission capacities are limited; the then current regulations of the Corona Protection Ordinance of the State of Berlin apply. Admission is only possible with a valid time slot ticket, which can only be booked online as of 28 May 2021: www.smb.museum/nng. According to the current status, visitors need a negative Corona test result (max. 24 hours old) or proof of a fully effective vaccination or proof of recovery from a COVID-19 illness on the day of the visit.
The planned performance by the Rosas dance company under the direction of Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker cannot take place due to Corona and will probably be made up in March 2022. Please note that Corona may be subject to changes at short notice. For the latest information, please visit the above-mentioned museum website.
