In addition to its branches in London, Berlin and Norway, Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery will open a further exhibition space in August 2021. Located about 40 minutes’ drive west of Berlin, Schloss Görne offers the visitors a delightful opportunity to experience contemporary art in the dramatic and historic setting of an 18th-century German manor house. The new location will also present an annual exhibition during the summer months, following the success of the new exhibition space in an old shrimp factory on the coast of Norway, which opened in 2020.

The opening of the fifth branch in Schloss Görne will take place on Saturday, 7 August 2021 and will be introduced by the large summer exhibition FACING THE SUN. With a variety of artworks by 37 international artists, the historic building, which had fallen into disrepair over the years, will be brought back to life. Appropriately titled, the exhibition celebrates the gallery’s continued global expansion with an optimistic view of the future – despite the many challenges the art world has faced in recent months.

In the morbidly romantic charm of the interior spaces and the overgrown garden, “Facing the Sun” will be home to an eclectic collection of paintings, sculptures and mixed media artworks by “Gallery Artists & Friends”, which will not least initiate a dialogue between the old and the new. Visitors are invited to reflect on the possibilities of art to both transform and reinvigorate space.

The opening of the exhibition also marks the beginning of an ongoing partnership between the gallery and Schloss Görne, which will support the gradual renovation of the building into a vibrant cultural space where the beauty of nature and art come together. In this way, “Facing the Sun” will not only be an inspiring exhibition of international emerging artists, but also a passionate vision for the time when we can come together again to enjoy the unique diversity of art and culture.
