From 1 to 3 October 2021, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, in collaboration with the Julia Stoschek Collection, presents the commissioned performance REACHING by Michele Rizzo in the series “Pause”. The choreographer and multidisciplinary artist explores rave culture and the meaning of the moments and spaces in which it becomes tangible. Through a choreography of 14 performers that progresses with equal deliberation, underpinned by a sound score by composer Billy Bultheel and a lighting design by Theresa Baumgartner, the artist points to the liminal space of REACHING.
In October 2021, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, in collaboration with the Julia Stoschek Collection, presents a commissioned performance by Michele Rizzo (1984, based in Amsterdam). The choreographer and multidisciplinary artist explores rave culture and the meaning of the moments and spaces in which it becomes tangible. Based on the ecstatic attitude of his performance HIGHER xtn. (2019), the artist’s approach points to the liminal space of REACHING, through a choreography of 14 performers that progresses with equal deliberation, underpinned by a sound score by composer Billy Bultheel (1987, based in Berlin and Brussels) and a lighting design by Theresa Baumgartner (*1990, based in Berlin).
The artist explores and embraces multiple levels inherent in a journey of unison and transcendence that forms between and among the moving bodies. REACHING reveals a space hidden behind the emotions of ecstasy, euphoria and acceleration that are prevalent here; allusions to desire and the secret will of each individual are revealed and develop into an introspective and at the same time rousing choreography of friction and coalescence.
