Trees, birds, solitary figures, sleeping people, stones, wind and water, but also geometric shapes and bright colours obtained from pigments themselves form the vocabulary of her painting, in which each brushstroke counts as much as the whole picture. Who is this painter who “can do what she wants and wants what she can” (Laymert Garcia dos Santos)? Long since known to more than just a circle of enthusiasts, Rosilene Luduvico travels time and again from her adopted home in Düsseldorf to South America, Europe and Japan. The attentive study of nature, the preoccupation with the so-called Old Masters and the various moderns of the world as well as unconditional contemporaneity go hand in hand for her.

A cosmos of colours and forms, each individual brushstroke as a “creative force” – Rosilene Luduvico’s work is making its way into the Darmstadt exhibition rooms. Works created especially for the Kunsthalle, such as the over 20-metre-wide mural Un amico delle acque, which can already be seen from the forecourt, and the painting cycle Hemerocallis, are part of the main exhibition in the Kunsthalle 2022 programme.
Rosilene Luduvico’s hitherto little-known abstract painting meets a broad audience here for the first time. A concentrated selection of portraits of the “Sleepers” are exhibited together with the new group of works. They open up an understanding of the foundations of Luduvico’s painting, which draws its strength from the attentive study of nature, but also from the study of the so-called Old Masters and the various moderns of the world.
Born in 1969 in Espírito Santo, Brazil, Rosilene Luduvico’s painting has taken her around the world – whether to draw inspiration in her native Brazil as well as during numerous visits to Japan or through solo exhibitions in Berlin, Paris and New York. Currently, a selection of Rosilene Luduvico’s works is on display at the Brasilidade Pós Modernismo, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, curated by Tereza de Arruda, in Belo Horizonte and Brasilia.
In order to give Rosilene Luduvico and her work appropriate space, the exhibition is being extended in advance until 27.11.22. This will also invite visitors to documenta 15 in Kassel. Visitors to documenta 15 in Kassel are thus also invited to visit Darmstadt. In Studio West of the Kunsthalle, the exhibitions will alternate as usual in close succession. For the first time, several presentations are planned for Studio East.
