In an enchanted landscape of flowers, metal tiles and water, choreographer and performer Kat Válastur embodies various female archetypes and personas. The late medieval mystic Marguerite Porete, the figure of Monkey, the daughter in Tarkovsky’s film “Stalker”, or the figure of Lady Jane Gray, depicted in a painting by Delaroche, materialise in this operatic confession about the construction of the self and identity.

Kat Válastur delves into her memory of movement, using her imaginary and visual language to explore the kaleidoscopic experience of a woman artist in the present day. Using the ghosts of women past and present who have been oppressed, marginalised, abused, burned or beheaded, she transforms the stage space into a zone, an encapsulated world and potential home with magical power, charged with feminine transcendence and spirituality.
The film version of “Eye, Lash!” was shown at HAU4 in March 2021. Now the work will finally be shown on stage in front of an audience.
