In the morning, the large portrait figure of Käthe Kollwitz was erected in front of the theater building at Charlottenburg Palace. Created by sculptor Gustav Seitz (1906-1969), the bronze sculpture is over two meters tall and shows the artist seated with a portfolio. The portrait figure was removed from its old museum location in Fasanenstraße in January 2023 and temporarily stored in the workshops of the Noack sculpture foundry until the end of the renovation work at Charlottenburg Palace is in sight. Now, just in time for the Long Night of Museums, it stands on the square in front of the Kollwitz Museum and welcomes visitors to the museum.

The bronze sculpture is a second casting of the seated portrait of the artist, which was made especially for the museum and erected in 1960 on what is now Kollwitzplatz in the Prenzlauer Berg district. The second casting, produced in the Noack foundry, was donated to the museum by the sculptor’s widow, Luise Seitz, for the opening in May 1986. The casting costs were donated by Robert Bosch GmbH, Stuttgart.
