Alex Müller uses painting, sculpture and drawing to create immersive, walk-in works of art. She transforms organic materials such as apples and blue poppies as well as everyday objects into fantastical and enigmatic scenes. Her work is influenced by autobiographical elements, media memory culture, childhood television series, filmmakers such as Peter Greenaway, mythology, astrology and German history, including the division of Germany and her family’s East-West experience.
In her solo exhibition “Der Anfang steht schon fest”, Müller redesigns a 19th century gallery space with a collection of figurative paintings, sculptures and wall drawings. The exhibition mixes personal and collective stories, family memories and symbolic elements of the subconscious, creating a fragmented and mysterious environment.
