On 30 November 2024, the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz (EKBO) will be holding an art auction at St. Matthäus-Kirche am Berliner Kulturforum. Works by Julian Rosefeldt, Berta Fischer, Björn Dahlem, Angelika Platen, Gregor Hildebrandt and others will go under the hammer in favour of refugee projects. A week earlier, from 22 November 2024, all the works will be on display as part of an exhibition at St. Matthew’s Church.

On Saturday, 30 November, the 29th art auction of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO) will take place in St. Matthew’s Church at the Berlin Kulturforum. Patrons are Bishop Dr Christian Stäblein and art patron Prof Dr Peter Raue. 48 works of contemporary art – for example by Julian Rosefeldt, Berta Fischer, Björn Dahlem, Angelika Platen, Gregor Hildebrandt, Sandra Vasquez de la Horra and Martin Assig – will go under the hammer in favour of refugee projects. In addition, the neighbours of the Kulturforum are participating with exclusive art events that can be purchased at the highest bidder. These include backstage insights into the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, a pop-up exhibition at the Kupferstichkabinett or a manuscript show from Luther to Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Curator Fares al Hassan is the auctioneer at the podium.
A jury of renowned representatives of the Berlin art and culture scene was responsible for selecting the participating artists. The art auction will be co-chaired by regional pastor Dagmar Apel and the EKBO’s art commissioner, Pastor Hannes Langbein.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit projects for refugees. These include aid projects for traumatised migrants who find it difficult to access the healthcare system and counselling services for asylum applications and the right to stay. Especially in the current heated and restrictive debate about migration and refugees, the EKBO is sending a strong signal for more solidarity and philanthropy with its art auction.
During the exhibition period, there will be lunchtime devotions on the topic of flight and displacement (22-30 November, 12.30 pm, except Sun and Mon) and a panel discussion with refugees (27 November, 6.30 pm). More information: https://www.ekboart.de
