HUMOROUS AND ENCHANTING

World premiere: A Midsummer Night’s Dream
21 February 2025, 7.30 pm, Deutsche Oper Berlin

The comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of the most famous and beloved works of William Shakespeare, exploring the power of love, the confusions of human emotions, and the magic of fantasy. Edward Clug’s choreographic interpretation tells Shakespeare’s story through a contemporary lens—navigating the depths of human nature while remaining humorous and enchanting. “I want the audience to fall in love with the piece,” says the choreographer.

The costumes by Leo Kulaš, the set design by Marko Japelj, and the video projections by Rok Predin contribute to this: the dancers surf and float across the stage, appearing as oversized insects or in large groups as a living forest of leaves. The music by Milko Lazar is a commissioned work that is developed in close connection with the production and will have its world premiere with the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin under the musical direction of Victorien Vanoosten.
