Berlin University of the Arts is opening its anniversary year with a special interdisciplinary event on 8 February 2025. To mark the university’s 50th anniversary, 17 artistic contributions will be presented under the title ‘An Experimental Ecology. Art Practice in Dialogue between Disciplines at the UdK Berlin’, 17 artistic contributions in the form of dance, theatre, music, installations, video works and performances will reflect the transformative dialogue between the arts. The works were created as part of an open call that the UdK Berlin organised for students last year to mark the anniversary.

The artistic contributions focus on the institution itself, but also on social and ecological issues. For example, the performance ‘Hypercapnia’ translates climatic tipping points into physical experiences. The video installation ‘More than human perspectives’ sheds light on resilience strategies of plants, animals and humans in times of global transformation, while the interactive ‘Kreislauffabrik’ (circular factory) tests alternative economic and resource utilisation.
The inter- and transdisciplinarity of the UdK Berlin has its roots in the merger of the University of Fine Arts and the University of Music and Performing Arts, which led to the founding of the University of the Arts in 1975 and was renamed the Berlin University of the Arts in 2001.
