Eleven choreographies created by dancers of the Staatsballett Berlin will premiere on February 20, 2026, at the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. As part of the Next Generation format, ensemble members switch roles from performers to creators. They develop not only the choreography but also the music selection, set design, lighting and costume design, as well as projections and props used on stage. Works will be presented by Gustavo Chalub, Aurora Dickie, Grégoire Duchevet, Achille de Groeve, Vivian Assal Koohnavard, Leroy Mokgatle, Filippo Pagani, Anthony Tette, Olmo Verbeeck Martínez, Dominik White Slavkovský und Shuailun Wu.
The lineup includes newcomers who are presenting their first original choreography, as well as experienced choreographers. They will showcase intimate solos, pas de deux, or pieces for up to 11 dancers. The musical range spans from Daft Punk and Etta James to Philip Glass, including live percussion rhythms accompanying Sufi dance. The works range from abstract pieces to those exploring spiritual or political themes. Stylistically, the program features classical movement language alongside pop-inspired pieces with 50 pink helium balloons on stage, as well as analytical creations that focus solely on movement vocabulary.
