After a guided tour through both exhibitions, Louis Scherfig will read his short story The Fire, a surreal and contemporary reflection on (cultural) decay and social decadence, written on the occasion of Oliver Bak’s exhibition.
This will be followed by a special screening of This not That – The Artist John Baldessari, a 90-minute documentary film by Jan Schmidt-Garre. The film offers a fascinating insight into Baldessari’s innovative artistic practice and presents rarely shown footage and inspiring interviews with artists, students and experts from the art world.
About the catalogue Ahmedabad 1992
On the occasion of John Baldessari’s exhibition at Sprüth Magers in London and Berlin, an accompanying catalogue will be published presenting a series of mixed-media works created by Baldessari during his residency at the Sarabhai family estate in Ahmedabad, India. The catalogue includes contributions by Shanay Jhaveri and Mario D’Souza and is published in collaboration with Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König.
About the catalogue Geisterfahrer, or The Crowned Anarchist
On the occasion of Oliver Bak’s first exhibition at Sprüth Magers, the authors Hilka Dirks, Nils Emmerichs and Louis Scherfig shed light on Bak’s artistic practice from different angles and capture the numerous layers and references in his work.
