The HAU Hebbel am Ufer is kicking off its 2026/27 season as part of Berlin Art Week with two world premieres by female artists from Berlin.

The artist Sophia Süßmilch is developing the in-house production “Something Terrible Will Happen: The Cannibal Woman” for the HAU (premiere: 12 September, further performances on 13, 15 and 16 September, HAU1). The performance explores female anger and repressed emotions. Through an interdisciplinary fusion of dance, drama and music, Süßmilch creates a visually striking world that blends the absurd, the grotesque, clown-like aesthetics and musical elements. With this production, the HAU is presenting a production by this versatile artist for the first time.
The (post)digital artist Theresa Reiwer is also appearing with her walk-through installation ‘Internet Explorer’ (premiere: 12 September, further performances until 20 September, HAU3). In her second HAU co-production, Reiwer explores the vision of the internet as a democratic and solidarity-based common good – as a digital space that is committed to people and does not primarily serve commercial exploitation.
Set against the backdrop of an internet café, visitors move in small groups through essayistic video worlds and mini-games. In doing so, the installation links the digital present with past moments in online culture and offers a perspective on the development and future of the internet that is as playful as it is critical.
