DEEDS CALENDAR: Berlinische Galerie – Green Stuff – Plants in Contemporary Photography | until 22.01.2024
Tall firs, dense mangroves, bizarre pistils of flowers – the plant world produces unique forms. Incorporated into complex and highly sensitive ecosystems, plants are intertwined with human culture in many ways. Their contemplation can be calming, thought-provoking, or evoke strong feelings of trepidation and fear. In photography, plants have been popular subjects of photographic processes and experiments since the early 19th century.
The exhibition “Green Stuff. Plants in Contemporary Photography” takes up this multifaceted theme. It presents contemporary works primarily from the Photographic Collection that negotiate the often ambivalent relationship between people and plants in the medium of photography.
