The Berlin painter Franziska Klotz is showing the exhibition “Ölregen” at the Q Galerie in Schorndorf, Bavaria, from the end of March to the end of April 2019. This was announced by the Kornfeld Gallery, which is based in Berlin-Charlottenburg and represents Franziska Klotz.

Franziska Klotz pursues a ‘pure’ painting in the sense of a purely visual communication between artist, artwork and viewer, rejecting illustrative-drawing moments in the working process. Nevertheless, the pictorial ideas arise from concrete situations, which usually receive a substrate of objectivity in the pictures. This painting between representationalism and the dissolution of things into visual stimuli poses the question as to how far painting can preserve its purity and freedom from, for example, fashionable pictorial strategies and narrative obligations. Using motifs from her family history, she attempts to transform her painting, which is also characterized by a biographically anchored academic post-impressionism. By turning to texture and abandoning a composition based on depth, she tells the stories of the depicted motifs through colour.

Franziska Klotz studied painting at the Kunsthoch schule Berlin-Weißensee and was awarded the Max Ernst Scholarship by the city of Brühl. At the invitation of the Goethe Institute, she was a scholarship holder at the Tarabya Academy of Culture in Istanbul, where she returned for two months at the beginning of 2018 after a six-month stay in 2015. Her works are exhibited worldwide, including at the 4th Moscow International Biennale for Young Art 2014, the 56th October Salon in Belgrade 2016, and the Fanø Art Museum in Denmark in 2017.
