(HANNS FRIEDRICHS “I DON’T DO FASHION – I DRESS WOMEN”)
Precious fabrics, extravagant details of lace trim, embroidery and sequins – the designer Hanns Friedrichs (1928-2012) wrote German fashion history. With his daring designs and the credo “I don’t make fashion, I dress women”, “HF” inspired his female customers from the 1950s onwards.

With over 100 creations from more than five decades, the Emil Schumacher Museum offers the first insight into the work of a fashion designer whose work has hardly been remembered even among experts. Wrongly so: from opulent evening gowns with feather trimmings to wedding dresses embroidered with delicate blossoms, the exhibition enables a rediscovery of a couturier who wrote German fashion history.
