With over 250 hats, bonnets, caps, veils and other headgear, as well as paintings and sculptures, the exhibition provides a grand overview of the cultural history of headwear from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The spectrum ranges from magnificent mitres and graceful ladies’ hats to the latest designer models. Hats worn by the fairy tale king Ludwig II or Otto von Bismarck shed light on the preferences of prominent personalities. Alongside models by Dior, Cardin and Saint Laurent, unique pieces by Philip Treacy and Stephen Jones are on show. History and the present are brought under one hat, and it becomes clear: headwear serves as social markers and fashion statements, offers a unique variety and is simply beautiful!
The exhibition is under the patronage of Gloria Thurn und Taxis.
